Improving Menstrual and Reproductive Health amongst Mumbai women

Myna Mahila Foundation is a non-profit organisation based in Mumbai which empowers over 10,000 women residing in Mumbai’s slum dwellings every month by providing reproductive and menstrual health services, employment for financial stability and developing a better understanding of their community’s needs through extensive field research.

Since I had already been interested in the domains of reproductive health and justice, I volunteered with this organisation to gain a better understanding of the needs of women of lower socio-economic status and to add my personal contribution in the community’s advancement through reproductive health and women empowerment.

My role consisted of compiling medical information about various physiological and pathological conditions of the female reproductive system and actionable steps to manage them. This information was later scripted for Myna’s video module and content for Myna Mahila’s Health app.

This role was well-suited for me as this aligned well with my background in the medical field and the team at Myna was friendly, encouraging and very motivating to work with.

So, if anyone reading this is also interested in reproductive health and helping women from different walks of life… I’d highly recommend it!
